The administration of the St. Marys City Police Department operates under a

strong Council-Manager, Home Rule Charter form of government.

The department is organized with five fields of specialization:

• Uniformed Patrol

• Criminal Investigation

• Youth Aid

• Public Relations, and

• Animal Control

Officers are kept quite busy servicing over 14,000 residents in an area of almost 100 square miles with 100 miles of roadways.

Man hours are directed at specific community problems as needed.  Those problems are detected via the departments hi-tech computer programs.

As in most municipal police departments the administrations primary responsibilities are personnel management; planning research and development; budgeting and finance; recruitment and training; internal affairs and discipline; and inspection.
