Animal Control


 

Debbie Constable is the current Dog Law Enforcement Officer in the City of St. Marys.  She can be reached by calling 594-5599.

 

DOGS AT LARGE

  • It is unlawful for the owner of any dog or dogs to allow or permit such dog or dogs to run at large in the City of St. Marys.
  • Any police officer or dog law enforcement officer may seize any dog found at large in the City.  Such dogs are to be impounded in the City's' licensed kennel.
  • Owners of licensed dogs will be notified by registered or certified mail, with return receipt, that the dog is impounded and will be disposed of in five days.  If not claimed with five days after the return receipt has been received, the dog may be sold or destroyed in accordance with the 1982 Dog Law.
  • Unlicensed dogs that are seized are to be held in such kennel for 48 hours and if not claimed may be destroyed in accordance with the 1982 Dog Law.
  • The fee charged to the owner of a dog housed in the kennel is $7.00 per day, plus a $15.00 release fee.

 

DISPOSAL OF UNWANTED DOGS

  • The City of St. Marys Dog Law Enforcement Officer is  authorized to dispose of any dog presented to him for disposal by the owner; provided that owner is a resident of the City of St. Marys and the $50.00 fee for disposal is paid in advance.

 

TRAPPING PROGRAM

The City of St. Marys has in effect a trapping program in cooperation with the Game Commission Laws.   The fee for placing traps is $15.00.  If animals are caught there is an additional  $20.00 fee per animal for removal.

The types of animals the City will place traps for are: skunks, raccoons, possums, wild domesticated cats, and coyotes.
