MEMORIAL PARK ACTIVITIES

Registration for all activities begins Monday, June 5th.   All lessons will begin the week of June 12th.  All leagues will begin the week of June 14th.  To register, call or stop at Memorial Park.

Archery Lessons Archery lessons will be taught Mondays and Wednesdays at Memorial Park.   A class for children nine and under will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   A class for children 10 and above will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Arts and Crafts Friday from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m.
Basketball Leagues Boys:  A basketball league will be offered for boys entering the 4th through 6th grade at Memorial Park. Games will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Basketball Tournaments Riverboat Tournament:  Tournaments will be held every Wednesday morning at Memorial Park for boys 9th grade and under.  Registration is at 10:00 a.m.   The first tournament will be held on June 14th.

Pizza Tournaments:  Every Friday evening, Memorial Park will host a three-on-three basketball tournament.   Registration begins at 8:00 p.m. and games begin at 8:20 p.m.  The first Pizza tournament will be held on June 9th.

Day Camp A day camp will be held on July 10th through July13th for children entering first and second grade.  A day camp will run on July 17th through July 20th for children entering first through fourth grade.  A day camp will also be run on July 24th through July 27th for children entering third and fourth grades.  All camps will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Highlights from the past include arts and crafts projects, movies, and field trips.  Meals will be provided from local area restaurants.  The lottery system will be used again this year.  The cutoff will be 25 children for all  sessions.
Preschool Preschool will be held for children ages four and five at Memorial Park.   Sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to11:30 a.m.  Preschool will begin on June 12th and run until June 29th.  Children will be provided snacks, will participate in arts and crafts projects, watch movies, and go on field trips throughout the duration of the camp.   The lottery system will also be used for preschool if the demand exceeds capacity.   The cutoff will be 25 children per session.
Tennis Lessons Tennis lessons will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Memorial Park.   Beginners' lessons for those entering third to fifth grade will be held on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Beginners and intermediates entering sixth to 12th grade will be on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. 

Memorial Park will be offering a tennis camp from June 26th until June 29th at the following times:   Session 1 - third grade to fifth grade at 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Session 2 - sixth grade to eighth grade at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; Session 3 - ninth grade to 12th grade at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Limit of 12 students per session.*  (*Note:  private lessons are also available for any children or adults.)

Memorial Park Travel Tennis Team - must be in sixth grade or up.  Travel to other towns for a team match.  Matches will be arranged if we get enough players.   Boys and girls are welcome.

Drill Sessions - Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Park; Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Marys Country Club; Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at St. Marys Area High School (doubles).

MEMORIAL PARK SPECIAL EVENTS

May 27th -29th Straub Brewery Clay Court Championships - a USTA sanctioned tournament held every Memorial Day weekend.  Matches are played throughout the community on private clay and Har-Tru courts.  Entry fee is $5.00
June ? - TBA All Star Track Camp and Meet - a three day camp ending with a track meet on the fourth day.  Open to all children in grades fourth, fifth, and sixth.  There is no entry fee.  This event will take place at the St. Marys Area High School track.  There will be separate divisions for boys and girls as well as separate age groups.  Camp will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
July 16th - 18th Dave's Pro Shop Tennis Tournament - a tennis tournament open to residents of the St. Marys Area School District.  There is no entry fee.  Register at Memorial Park.
July 21st - 23rd Inner Park Day - WKBI, Pizza Hut, and the St. Marys Recreation Department will be co-sponsoring the event.  Ten events will be offered to participants and each participant will compete in seven events of their choice.   There are separate divisions for boys and girls as well as for various age groups.   Lunch is provided by Pizza Hut.
July 10th  - 14th McDonalds Junior Tennis Tournament - a tennis tournament open to junior residents of the St. Marys Area School District.  There is no entry fee.   Register at Memorial Park.
July 21st - 23rd Dave's Pro Shop Tennis Tournament - A tennis tournament open to residents of the St. Marys Area School District.  Entry is free.  Register at Memorial Park.
July 24th - 25th Memorial Park Extended Play Volleyball Tournament - teams that play in the City volleyball leagues on Monday and Tuesday nights at Memorial Park may participate.  There will be divisions based on league standings in the double elimination tournament.  Entry fee is $10.00 per team.
August Lee Foster Memorial Run - Trophies and awards are given to the top finishers of this 5K run.  There are categories for males and females, as well as for various age groups.

COMMUNITY SWIMMING POOL
Pool Opens Saturday, May 27th, Sunday, May 28th and Monday, May 29th.
Summer Opening Thursday, June 8th.
Pool Closes Sunday, August 27, 2006
Hours Every day from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  (Open swim begins at 1:15 p.m. during swimming lessons.)
Night Swims Night swims are held on Sunday evenings from 8:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
2006 Membership Rates Daily rate for non-member - $5.00 per adult (18 or older) and $4.00 per child

Sunday night swims for non-member - $3.00

Individual membership - $100.00

Family membership (only two members over 18 years of age) - $175.00

Individual senior citizen membership (60 or older) - $75.00

Family senior citizen membership (60 or older) - $125.00

Family memberships may purchase a BABYSITTER CARD at an additional cost of $30.00.   The Recreation Board approved this policy for families dependent upon a babysitting service for their children.  The card is valid only when a competent babysitter accompanies and is responsible for the safety of the family membership's children.

(A "no refund" policy has been established on all memberships.)

SWIMMING POOL ACTIVITIES

Swimming Lessons St. Marys Community Swimming Pool will be offering three two-week sessions of swimming lessons.  Those weeks are:  June 12th through June 23rd, July 3rd through July14th, and July 24th  through August 4th.  Each session runs Monday through Friday at the following times:  10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.  Pre-school Aquatics is offered at 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. during each session.  For this class, a parent or legal guardian must be in the water at all times with the child.  You can register for swimming lessons at the Community Pool during normal operating hours. Registration cannot be made by telephone.

Swimming Lesson Rates:

Non-members:  First child - $40.00;  Second child - $30.00;   Each child after that - $20.00.

Members:  First child - $20.00;  Second child - $15.00;   Each child after that - $10.00.

 

Water Aerobics As in the past, the St. Marys Community Pool will be holding water aerobics three times a week at the pool.  Aerobics begin the week of June 18th.  For more information, call the St. Marys Community Pool.
Memorial Swim Team Meets The Memorial Swim Team's three home meets for this summer are yet to be announced.  On these dates, the Community Pool will be closing at 4:30 p.m.  The swim meets are open to the public.  No open swim will be held during this time.
National Night Out National Night Out will take place on August 1st.  Activities include swimming,music, food and activities for everyone.
Swim Championships Swimming championships will take place the weekend of July 28th - 30th.
