RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

| The major responsibility of the library is to maintain a free, public non-sectarian library which serves the informational, educational, and recreational needs of all the residents of the area for which its governing body is responsible by providing access to an organized and currently useful collection of printed items and other materials and to the services of a staff trained to recognize and provide those needs. (The Library Code: Article 1, Section 102) |
| Other responsibilities include: |
| 1. Initiate policies regarding personnel, materials selection, facility use, operations, continuing education for staff, public relations and cooperation with other libraries/systems. |
| 2. Plan for long and short range operations. |
| 3. Secure adequate funding for operations and maintain financial stability. |
| The St. Marys Public Library has 47,000 titles and 10,000 patrons; has doubled total circulation of library materials since 1997, has 14 public access computers, and has over 450 children participating in annual library events. |
